Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Binge-Worthy TV Shows

I’ve never done a Top Ten Tuesday before, but this week’s topic is so fun, I couldn’t resist. Here is a list of my top ten binge-worthy TV series.

The Walking Dead

Zombie apocalypse? Yes, please! The Walking Dead is my go-to when I feel like binging a series, and I never get tired of watching it.

Ah, Outlander … my favorite series of books. I was a little nervous in the beginning about how well (or not) it would be adapted for television, but I needn’t have worried. A well-chosen cast of excellent actors and phenomenal writing have made this show a joy to watch!

I finally signed up for Netflix a couple of weeks ago and I was delighted to (finally!) continue watching Shameless. (I only had the first couple of seasons on DVD, and never got around to buying the rest.) I’m on season six at the moment, so I’m close to getting caught up. Yay!

Believe it or not, when Chuck first came around, I didn’t want to watch it. My sons kept talking about it, so I finally caved and (reluctantly) started watching it. It took all of five minutes for me to fall in love with this show, and I kicked myself for refusing to watch it in the beginning. Clever, hysterically funny, and heartwarming, Chuck will always be one of my favorites.

The Waltons

When I was a kid, I hated The Waltons. I thought it was boring and stupid. When I had two very young children of my own, I happened to find it one day as I was flipping channels, and—for lack of a better choice—watched it. Imagine my surprise when I found myself actually enjoying it! I guess I had to have a family of my own before I was able to fully appreciate it. Years later, I now own the entire collection (nine seasons, plus the Made-for-TV movies) on DVD. This is my feel-good series to watch… it just makes me happy.

I used to watch Charmed religiously every week, and eventually bought the series on DVD. When I’m in the mood for a magical series, this is my first choice.

ER is absolutely the BEST medical TV series ever created, in my opinion. I loved the fast pace of the show, and cared a great deal about all the characters on the show.

Supernatural is another favorite. I’ve been watching Sam and Dean Winchester taking care of the ‘family business’ since episode one, and I love revisiting the beginning of this show.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad is another series I resisted watching. I didn’t think I would like it, given the subject matter… and then I watched it. It wasn’t long before I was hooked!

Eureka is one of my (many) favorite sci-fi series! Genius scientists live in the top-secret town of Eureka, creating technological wonders for the world… when they’re not wreaking havoc with an experiment gone wrong. Sheriff Jack Carter (not a genius) is tasked with the job of saving the town (sometimes the world) when bad things happen. Equally dramatic and comedic, this is always a great series to binge.

10 Honorable Mentions

Just because it was so hard to pick only ten. 🙂

    • Thanks, Eva! Supernatural is one of the shows that I try to be home for, but I’ve missed a few episodes I need to catch up on. (I need to get that done before the new season starts!) Maybe one day you’ll start watching again?

  1. I love (the original) Battlestar Galactica, and could never quite get into the new version. I also love Doctor Who (who doesn’t?) but to start binging from the beginning to the current episoide… whoa, that would take a looong time. LoL
If it’s a worthy enough show to binge, I might already have it on dvd, Eureka, Warehouse 13, Lost are three such titles you mentioned.
A good list, all the same.

      • Haha Carter was SO excited to investigate a bank robbery… but it was just that Higgs field disruptor causing it to levitate, and he was so disappointed! Loved the look on his face when he realized it wasn’t what he hoped it would be.

Carter’s Jeep had a lot of bad things happen to it, but the worst had to be when it floated up into space!

    • Thanks, Kenneth! I was the opposite with Battlestar Galactica–loved the new, didn’t care for the old.

I should have noted that it’s the recent Doctor Who that I watch–Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith–and not the very beginning. LOL I am behind, though, because I haven’t watched the 13th Doctor’s stuff yet.

    • Jessica, you DO need to watch those shows! Especially Outlander… it’s SO good!

iZombie and Superstore didn’t grab my attention, but I am going to watch Stranger Things at some point. (Everything is on hold until I finish Shameless.)

    • I think my niece made the same comment about Supernatural! I love it, though. 🙂 ER is the only medical show I’ve ever watched, and enjoyed, and probably the only one I will watch. None of the others interest me.

  2. I loved Lost and Supernatural. I am 2 seasons behind with Walking Dead and now I hear that Rick might be leaving? Can’t wait to catch up though. Shameless is also on my list. I love that show though worried about Fiona’s news ahead of the new season. I really need to watch Breaking Bad. Great list!

    • Thanks, Diana! I’m so glad I did this T10T… it’s been so much fun finding out who loves some of the same shows I do. Seeing your post made me want to join in. 🙂 I was in such a rush to do my list, I don’t think I came back to comment on yours. (Sorry!)

I heard about Emmy Rossum leaving Shameless, and I’m so bummed about it! I can’t imagine the Gallagher clan without her, but 9 years is a long time to do a series, so I get it. And yes, Andrew Lincoln (Rick) will be leaving The Walking Dead during season 9. 😢 That’s going to be a tough loss for the show.

I was truly surprised with how much I liked Breaking Bad, but it was great! I hope you’ll check it out sometime.

  3. I loved Eureka! I was so sad when it ended — such a creative and funny show. I binge-watched all of The Walking Dead last year, and now I’m completely hooked. Can’t wait to see what happens in the new season! Outlander is my favorite thing ever, and season 4 looks like it will be amazing. Great list!

    • Thanks, Lisa! Eureka was always so much fun to watch, and I hated to see it end. Five years just wasn’t long enough for me.

I’m excited for season nine of The Walking Dead… just a month to go now!

I adore Outlander, but I’ll have to wait until the DVD release to see season four. It will definitely be worth the wait, though (as always)!
