5 Things I’m Watching on Netflix

In a recent Top Ten Tuesday post, I mentioned that I recently signed up for Netflix. I recently finished Shameless, and I really enjoyed it. Now I’m watching a few different shows, and thought it would be fun to tell y’all about it. Here’s a list of 5 THINGS I’M WATCHING ON NETFLIX.

I just started watching Anne with an “E” a couple of days ago. I had a vague memory that there was some sort of controversy about it when it first came out, but I didn’t recall the details… and I didn’t really care, to be honest. Anne of Green Gables has been a life-long favorite book of mine, and I couldn’t resist watching this. It’s not a strict adaptation of the book, and it’s not like the movie, but it doesn’t matter. Anne with a “E” is charming and delightful in its own way, and I’m enjoying every minute of it! Amybeth McNulty’s portrayal of Anne is just as enchanting as Megan Follows was, in my opinion. I’ve watched nothing else since I started it, so I’m one episode away from finishing the first season.

My sons told me that I needed to watch Daredevil before I watched The Punisher, but did I listen? Nope! Haha! This marks the first time in YEARS that I’ve seen anything in the MCU before they have, and I have to say I’m enjoying that almost as much as I’m enjoying the show. I’ve only seen four episodes in so far, but I’m completely hooked!

(I’ll eventually get around to watching all the Marvel series on Netflix, sooner or later. I’ve heard good things about ALL of them.)

Weeds is a series I never thought I’d be interested in, but I’m really liking it so far. I’ve only watched five episodes so far, but that was long enough to see that Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays the (deceased) husband of Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker). Is there anything that guy hasn’t been in?!

Nurse Jackie is unique in this list, in that I’ve only watched a single episode but I already know how it ends. I read about the series in a book I recently reviewed, and it intrigued me so much I added it to my watch list. It ran for seven seasons, so maybe by the time I reach the end of it, I’ll have forgotten what happens in the final episode.

Frontier is something I knew I had to watch as soon as I saw it. No, not because Jason Momoa is in it, but because of the premise. I’m a sucker for historical dramas, and this features one I’ve never seen before—the North American fur trade in the 1700s. This is the series I’ve watched the least of so far (literally just five minutes), but I plan to watch more over the weekend.

That’s it for my watch list at the moment. These will keep me busy for a little while!

Any suggestions for what to watch once I’ve finished with these? Let me know what you think in the comments, and I’ll let you know if it’s already on my list!

  1. I love your choices! I watched Weeds and Nurse Jackie when they were airing. I really liked both. I am hoping to start watching Anne with an E soon because I am the same as you about Anne of Green Gables! By the way, I picked up a William Morrow book, Marilla of Green Gables, a story about Marilla’s life before Anne. Now I want to watch Frontier because I also love anything historical like that, though I think the fur trade may be a bit too hard for me to watch? It sounds great though!

    • Thanks!

I never had a chance to watch Weeds or Nurse Jackie until now (no cable/satellite), so I love having the opportunity to see those (and so many other) shows now.

Marilla of Green Gables is a wonderful book! It fits right in with the rest of the books. If you start watching Anne with an “E”, do let me know what you think about it!

Frontier kicks off with a (brief) bloody scene–people, not animals. I wasn’t expecting it so soon, even though I knew it would be there at some point. That’s why I only watched the first five minutes… I wanted something less intense to watch at that time. LOL

  2. I need to watch Anne with an “E” since the Green Gables books are among my favorite. I really wanted to read Marilla of Green Gables but I have so many Oct ARCs, I was afraid to add one more. I knew it or one of them wouldn’t be reviewed in time. Weeds is on my watch list, so I’ll have to watch it soon. I loved Nurse Jackie when it aired…I even cried during the last episode! Enjoy!

    • I finished Anne with an “E” over the weekend, and it’s official: I love it! I’m having trouble deciding which of the remaining 4 I want to watch right now, but I’m leaning towards Nurse Jackie after what you said!

I should be more disciplined about ARCs. I can’t resist requesting things that feel like a must-read (such as Marilla of Green Gables). I haven’t requested anything new for a little while now, but I have so many to catch up on, there’s no way I’ll get them all reviewed in time for the pub dates.

      • I really need to watch it! I hope you like it then, lol. I’m a crier!

I don’t want to be disciplined and I was bad today and requested two but at least they don’t come out until 2019! I have way too many ARCs for Oct (at least for me because it takes me eons to write my reviews), so I just knew if I added more they wouldn’t be reviewed in time. What I have now might be late, lol. But I guess as long as we get them reviewed that’s what counts since it’s getting the book out there.

        • How did I miss your latest comment here?

I shouldn’t have said anything about not requesting new ARCS. I got a widget for Meet the Girls at 17 Swann Street yesterday, and was approved for Breaking Bad FAQ:
All That’s Left to Know About Hustlers, Bunsen Burners, and Heisenberg
          on Edelweiss today. LOL!

It takes a long time for me to write my reviews, too, and I’m bad about not starting them right away, as well. Not a good combo! But I do get them written, and that’s what counts.

          • It’s fine! I miss mine sometimes too.

I got two widgets yesterday too, so I’m with you…maybe saying you aren’t going to request any backfires, lol! One was for Meet the Girls at 17 Swann St too, but I had my eye on that one so I guess it was inevitable.

You and me both! I’ve finished 3 books since the weekend and haven’t started reviewing any of them, lol. I’m a serious procrastinator. I had a backlog of 11 books I’d read that needed reviewed over the summer that by the time I got to them, I was so frustrated. Good thing I highlight and make little notes in my kindle or I’d not know what happened lol. It’s definitely not a good combo, but I’m glad I’m not the only one. That’s true! Getting them written is the important part.

              • Oh my, lol. That is a lot! I’d probably just do a bunch of rapid reviews or mini ones to get them done, lol. I’m definitely glad that I’m not the only one who lets their reviews pile up. I just finish reading them, usually while in bed about to go to sleep so I’m not going to write a review then and in the morning I’m too busy to write it. Then I just start a new book, lol!

                • Yeah, that’s what I’ll have to do for some of them. Unless it turns out I have a lot to say (that happens a lot when I try to do a mini review). I finish a lot of books in the wee hours of the night, and that’s helped get me in this mess. LOL
