Ending a marriage is never easy when you have a child. It’s especially difficult for Emma Barton because her soon-to-be ex-husband Shaun is seeing another woman, Joanne Dent—who is not only Emma’s boss, but also the mother of a girl that Emma’s daughter strongly dislikes. Adjusting to her parents split is difficult for Maisie, but Emma begins to see signs that something more is going on with her little girl… something she refuses to talk about. As Maisie withdraws from everyone and everything she loves, Emma is convinced it has everything to do with Joanne and her obnoxious daughter Piper—and she has to prove it before something terrible happens to her little girl.
Closer is EXACTLY the sort of psychological thriller I love: suspenseful, unpredictable, with an explosive ending that will knock your socks off. The mystery surrounding the changes in Maisie kept me in a constant state of dread. What was the matter? Was someone hurting her, and if so… who? Her sadness and hidden inner turmoil just broke my heart. It made me want to leap into the book and comfort her, so it was very easy for me to feel the way Emma felt as she tried to uncover Maisie’s secret. Emma’s bewilderment over Maisie’s behavior and the fierce need she had to protect her daughter was as real to me as if I were going through it myself.
Slater’s writing was impeccable, as always, and that ending… WOW. It was absolutely brilliant! I reread those final passages over and over again, to make sure I understood it properly, and it never failed to blow me away. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget that final twist!
If you’re looking for a book that will keep you so mesmerized that you won’t be able to put down until you’ve read every last word, this is the book for you!

About the Book
I know my daughter better than I know myself and if there’s one thing I know for sure at this moment: it’s that Maisie is not ok.
My ex-husband Shaun and I are still friends.
We would do anything for our beautiful little girl, Maisie.
But now Shaun has moved in with Joanne and suddenly, Maisie has a brand new family.
And there’s something not quite right about it…I know Joanne isn’t everything she says she is. Yet no-one will listen.
I need to discover what she’s hiding.
Because if I don’t, my daughter will be in terrible danger.
The most gripping psychological thriller you’ll read this year from the Kindle top five bestselling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Girl on the Train or Gone Girl, you’ll be absolutely hooked.
About the Author
For many years, Kim sent her work out to literary agents but never made it off the slush pile. At the age of 40 she went back to Nottingham Trent University and now has an MA in Creative Writing.
Before graduating, she received five offers of representation from London literary agents which was, as Kim says, ‘a fairytale … at the end of a very long road!’
Kim is a full-time writer and lives in Nottingham with her husband, Mac.
I call Kim the Queen of Unforeseeable Twists! 🙂 I’m glad this novel worked for you!
