Welcome to The Geeky Bibliophile (formerly known as Bookish Regards). My name is Betty, and I’m so pleased you stopped by. I’m a wife and mother of three adult sons. My family is the most important thing in the world to me and my greatest blessing in life. I also have three fish (Houdini, Gambit, and Spike), one dog (Boomer), and one cat (Tazzy McFitz).
I have an incurable addiction to books that started when I learned to read using the Dick and Jane Readers in first grade. I’m constantly reading something, and my Kindle is always within reach, ready to transport me to that magical place that can only be found within the pages of a book. I believe reading is not only an escape from the stresses of life, but also a necessity. When we read, we broaden our horizons and learn about the world. We strengthen our empathy and compassion for others in our life when we connect with well written characters and their struggles. It also gives readers the ability to think outside the box, considering infinite possibilities when we read science fiction or other books with futuristic settings. The wealth of knowledge and entertainment found in books is a beautiful gift that I am always grateful to receive. My lifelong passion for reading is the foundation of who I am, and the reason I became a book blogger.
I’m a geek at heart, and it shows in my TV addiction. I have binge-watching marathons all the time, and I’m constantly adding to my TV series DVD collection, even though I’m quickly running out of shelf space. I can spend hours analyzing favorite episodes, character motivations, and quoting dialogue. A few of my favorites are: The Walking Dead, Outlander, Breaking Bad, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, Doctor Who, Orphan Black, Star Trek (every series), Chuck, Charmed, Downton Abbey, The Waltons, Eureka, and Warehouse 13. (OK, I got a little carried away with my list, but I did say I was a TV addict, right?)
I also love to play video games (even though I’m not that great at it). I’ve spent hours trying to complete all the side missions and/or unlock extras in games like Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil. And I’m still determined to finally get a good ending in a Silent Hill game… one day. My favorite computer games are The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. (And for those of you who play, my favorite families to play are the Broke Family in Sims 2 and Agnes Crumplebottom in Sims 3.) I’m the reigning Jeopardy and Scene It Queen in the house, as well. It’s rare that I don’t win, which kind of sucks because no one wants to play those games with me anymore.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Feel free to follow, like, and comment. I love chatting with others who love the same things I do, and hearing their opinions on things I post about.
