First Blogiversary, First Giveaway!

I was so wrapped up in taking a trip down memory lane in my previous post that I forgot something very important—the announcement of my very first giveaway!

If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram you’ve seen the teasers and knew a giveaway was imminent, but you didn’t know what the prizes were. I am very excited to announce all the details today!

Blogiversary Giveaway - The Devil's Prayer

I reviewed this book in August, and I absolutely loved it. It’s one of the most unique and engrossing books I’ve read all year, and I’m thrilled to be able to host a giveaway of this incredible book.

I would like to thank the author, Luke Gracias, for being so kind and generous in offering to do this giveaway!

I Love Goodreads!

After years of not doing it, I entered several Goodreads Giveaways a little over a week ago. I was thrilled to get an email informing me I’d won a copy of What the Dead Want by Norah Olson, even more so when it arrived just a few days later.

About an hour ago, I checked my email and saw that I’d won another giveaway. How freakin’ awesome is that? Two wins so close together… when I’d only ever managed to win once in the past, despite the fact that I was constantly entering and hoping to win? To say I was stunned would be an understatement. Stunned, and very excited, because I was lucky enough to win a book that I really, really, really wanted to read.

Author: David Dyer
Title: The Midnight Watch: A Novel of the Titanic and the Californian
Publication Date: April 5, 2016

dd_tmwAs the Titanic and her passengers sank slowly into the Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg late in the evening of April 14, 1912, a nearby ship looked on. Second Officer Herbert Stone, in charge of the midnight watch on the SS Californian sitting idly a few miles north, saw the distress rockets that the Titanic fired. He alerted the captain, Stanley Lord, who was sleeping in the chartroom below, but Lord did not come to the bridge. Eight rockets were fired during the dark hours of the midnight watch, and eight rockets were ignored. The next morning, the Titanic was at the bottom of the sea and more than 1,500 people were dead. When they learned of the extent of the tragedy, Lord and Stone did everything they could to hide their role in the disaster, but pursued by newspapermen, lawyers, and political leaders in America and England, their terrible secret was eventually revealed. The Midnight Watch is a fictional telling of what may have occurred that night on the SS Californian, and the resulting desperation of Officer Stone and Captain Lord in the aftermath of their inaction.

Told not only from the perspective of the SS Californian crew, but also through the eyes of a family of third-class passengers who perished in the disaster, the narrative is drawn together by Steadman, a tenacious Boston journalist who does not rest until the truth is found. The Midnight Watch is a powerful and dramatic debut novel–the result of many years of research in Liverpool, London, New York, and Boston, and informed by the author’s own experiences as a ship’s officer and a lawyer.

I can’t wait to get it! But it’s going to be pure torture having to wait to read it!

But I won’t think about that now… I’ll think about that tomorrow… 😉
