My obsession with The Walking Dead gave me an idea for a weekly post I’m guaranteed to stick with… Dead Stuff ‘n’ Thangs, in which I write about my thoughts on the latest episode of The Walking Dead. (I only wish I’d thought of it last week when the new season kicked off. I’ll get to that one later, though.) I love the show so there won’t be any “the show isn’t as great as it used to be’ nonsense here, but I also adore nitpicking the things that don’t make sense to me so I will be doing that when something stupid (in my opinion) happens. Let’s get started! (I may or may not discuss events in order… I’m just going with the flow of my thoughts here.)
Season 8, Episode 2: “The Damned”
Airdate: October 29th, 2017
I am obsessed with The Walking Dead.
That’s right. I said it. OBSESSED. I own the entire series, and I make it a point to buy it as soon as I see it hit the shelf. When the latest season isn’t airing (IS IT OCTOBER YET?!), I binge watch the show from start to finish—once a month. (And no, I don’t think that’s excessive at all. My family on the other hand… well, that’s a different story.) I’ve watched it so much, I’ve unintentionally memorized pretty much all of the dialogue. We have a TWD trivia game, but no one wants to play it with me because I always win. I like to point out little inconsistencies on episodes. (Example: “Chupacabra” [season two, episode five] After Daryl Dixon [Norman Reedus] is thrown from his horse, and hallucinates a conversation with his brother, Merle [Michael Rooker]? Pay attention to the dirt on Daryl’s mouth. Sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not.)
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know I love binge-watching The Walking Dead. I have the series on DVD, and I’m doing my best to wear them out. I’ll watch the whole series every couple of months or so, on average. When I decide it’s time, I’ll gleefully announce, “It’s time to start walking the dead again!” My family’s response typically looks something like this:
But, of course, we watch it anyway, because in this house…
Perhaps that first line should read ‘You either love to watch The Walking Dead all the time…”
So we watch it. I call attention to my favorite parts, or people that annoy me (cough LORI cough) and for the next several days, that’s pretty much all we watch until we get to the end. I’m seriously thinking of another marathon binge soon, so I can have a complete re-watch before season six is released. Even though it is a bit early for my regularly scheduled binge…
Does that mean I’m obsessed with the show? Nah. I prefer to think of it as being an enthusiastic viewer. 😉 And it’s always fun to spot things I’ve missed in all the many times I’ve watched it… and yes, it does still happen, even after all this time.
Is it October yet?!?!
